At ConstructConnect®, we're honored to be part of an industry that has a lasting, positive impact on local communities. AEC Cares is one of the clearest examples: a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit that brings together architects, engineers, and construction professionals for an annual day of service.
This year, ConstructConnect and nearly 150 volunteers united in San Diego on June 10 for this year’s day of service to renovate Rachel's Women's Center, a day center that has served women experiencing homelessness in the San Diego community for more than 40 years. The team redesigned the floor plan, refreshed the interior, and created a more welcoming environment across 4,500 square feet in a single day.
That one day of renovation is the visible result of a full year of planning by ConstructConnect team members on the AEC Cares Steering Committee. Add pro bono design and construction support from Stantec and Whiting-Turner, plus financial and in-kind contributions from a broad coalition of industry partners, and you start to understand the scope of what our team organizes every year.
AEC Cares started in New Orleans in 2011, with a first project repairing homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Since then, the organization has brought the construction industry together for days of service in cities including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Houston Las Vegas, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. This year’s #ProjectSanDiego is the latest chapter. ConstructConnect is the founding member and presenting sponsor because we believe our work isn't just about building projects on a solid foundation. It's about investing in the communities where we all live and work.
