6 Concrete Takeoff Tips for Estimators & Contractors
Check out these concrete takeoff tips for concrete contractors and estimators to improve their takeoff, estimating, and bidding processes to win more...
Construction estimating is changing fast. A new generation of AI-powered takeoff tools (software that measures quantities directly from digital plans) promises to cut hours of manual work down to minutes. But with dozens of vendors competing for your attention, it can be hard to tell which tools actually deliver, and which are mostly marketing.
This guide covers nine of the most talked-about platforms in the market right now, including two from our own portfolio. We've based every claim on primary sources: vendor websites, press releases, and verified user reviews from G2 and Capterra. When a claim could not be fully confirmed, that uncertainty is noted.
These platforms have been in the market for years and carry the largest installed bases.
On-Screen Takeoff is the original digital takeoff software, first released in 1988 by On Center Software. On Center is now a part of ConstructConnect and development has continued. In 2023, ConstructConnect added Takeoff Boost™, an AI-assisted suite of tools that automate portions of the takeoff process so estimators can bid faster – without compromising accuracy. In On-Screen Takeoff, Takeoff Boost includes Auto Takeoff, Auto Count, and Auto Link. Auto Scale and AI-Powered Auto Name are planned for August 2026. One user described a multi-day takeoff reduced to 20 minutes after adopting Takeoff Boost.
“I was able to do an initial takeoff of an 85,000-square-foot job in about 30 minutes with Takeoff Boost. That’s lightyears ahead of the competition.”
— John Kulger, Nibbi Brothers General Contractors
