Construction estimating is changing fast. A new generation of AI-powered takeoff tools (software that measures quantities directly from digital plans) promises to cut hours of manual work down to minutes. But with dozens of vendors competing for your attention, it can be hard to tell which tools actually deliver, and which are mostly marketing.

This guide covers nine of the most talked-about platforms in the market right now, including two from our own portfolio. We've based every claim on primary sources: vendor websites, press releases, and verified user reviews from G2 and Capterra. When a claim could not be fully confirmed, that uncertainty is noted.

The Established Players

These platforms have been in the market for years and carry the largest installed bases.

On-Screen Takeoff® by ConstructConnect®

On-Screen Takeoff is the original digital takeoff software, first released in 1988 by On Center Software. On Center is now a part of ConstructConnect and development has continued. In 2023, ConstructConnect added Takeoff Boost™, an AI-assisted suite of tools that automate portions of the takeoff process so estimators can bid faster – without compromising accuracy. In On-Screen Takeoff, Takeoff Boost includes Auto Takeoff, Auto Count, and Auto Link. Auto Scale and AI-Powered Auto Name are planned for August 2026. One user described a multi-day takeoff reduced to 20 minutes after adopting Takeoff Boost.

“I was able to do an initial takeoff of an 85,000-square-foot job in about 30 minutes with Takeoff Boost. That’s lightyears ahead of the competition.”

What to Ask Before You Buy

Regardless of which platform you're evaluating, push vendors on these points:

  • Can I trial the AI features on my own plans? Not a scripted walkthrough.
  • Are the AI tools available to the user or is this a “do it for you” solution?
  • What trades or plan types does the AI support? Some tools are calibrated for architectural floor plans and perform poorly on MEP or civil drawings.
  • What happens when the AI is wrong? Find out how easy it is to correct AI-generated measurements before they flow into your estimate.
  • What does it cost per user, per year? Many vendors in this comparison do not publish pricing. Get a written quote before investing time in an evaluation.
  • Does it integrate with your existing tools? Quick Bid®, Sage, Procore, Bluebeam®, Excel®, and accounting software are common integration requirements.

All pricing, ratings, and product features are current as of July 2026 and subject to change. Verify all claims directly with vendors before making a purchasing decision.
