JBS USA announced Thursday that it will invest $135 million to construct a state-of-the-art sausage production facility in Perry, Iowa.
Pending local approval, the JBS facility is scheduled to break ground in late 2025 and begin operations in late 2026.
The company said in a statement that the plant will produce 130 million pounds of sausage annually and process 500,000 sows each year, enough to feed roughly four million people nationwide.
Construction is expected to create an estimated 250 local jobs, the company said.

The investment arrives at a critical time for Perry, following the 2024 closure of a major meat processing plant that resulted in over 1,200 job losses.
Perry Mayor Dirk Cavanaugh called the project a “potential gamechanger,” citing long-term benefits for local infrastructure, schools, and businesses, the Perry News reported.
The nonresidential construction project is anticipated to boost Iowa’s pork industry and strengthen the region’s role in national protein supply chains.
JBS USA’s commitment to community investment includes expanding its Hometown Strong and Better Futures programs, supporting local infrastructure, and developing the workforce.
Wesley Batista Filho, CEO of JBS USA, emphasized the company’s long-term commitment: “This investment underscores our confidence in the strength of the U.S. market. We plan to be a long-term partner for Perry and, if approved by the community, the facility will help foster job creation and economic stability in the region.”
Initial food service hiring will support one shift with 250 employees, scaling to two shifts and 500 direct food service jobs as demand grows.
