  • Google is investing $3 billion to expand its U.S. data centers.

  • It will spend $1 billion in Virginia and $2 billion in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

  • Google also launched a $75 million AI Opportunity Fund with free AI training to one million Americans.

Google announced a $3 billion investment to expand its U.S. data center campuses, focusing on Virginia and Indiana.

In Virginia, Google will add $1 billion to expand three existing campuses, bringing its total investment in the state to over $4 billion. A new $2 billion data center campus in Indiana will be built in Fort Wayne.

These construction projects are designed to support the demand for Google’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cloud services, which provide access to products like Search, YouTube, and Maps. The company announced the developments at the end of April.

AI Skills: The $75M Opportunity Fund

Beyond its infrastructure initiatives, Google is launching a $75 million training venture, the AI Opportunity Fund. Through Google.org, its philanthropic arm, the fund aims to train one million Americans in essential AI skills at no cost.

“Through this fund, Google.org will work with nonprofit, education, and other sectors to train one million Americans of all backgrounds and provide them with AI skills at no cost,” Google said in a statement.

The company said it aims to attract participants from many backgrounds, including veterans, military families, and people with disabilities.

Initial grantees include the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) and Goodwill, which will help deliver AI training and Google’s new AI Essentials Course to communities nationwide.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the silent partner in preconstruction you probably never thought you needed. Now that AI has landed, it’s time to think of ways to introduce this technology to your process.”

Learning AI Essentials

The AI Essentials Course is a self-paced, 15-hour practical program designed by Google to teach foundational AI concepts, prompt engineering, responsible AI use, and AI productivity skills.

The course is open to all, regardless of experience, and provides a certificate upon completion. It helps workers and job seekers gain in-demand AI skills for the modern workplace.
